Music is being tossed

Hello everyone,

I regret to inform you of some troubles I encountered with the music used in Saving Wallden. As such, all music is being tossed from the game. And for now (at least), there will be no music in the game. And all versions of Saving Wallden have been pulled from downloads as they contain the problematic music. Currently, Saving Wallden is not available for download until I finish the next update, which will have no music.

The music currently in the game WIP comes from FreePD, which is supposed to be licensed under Creative Commons 0 (e.g. there would be no issue using it on streams). Recently, someone took one of the songs and used it in their own copyrighted work, causing YouTube and Twitch to begin muting anyone else using that same song. This means anyone can do that, and thus I can no longer trust any of the music on FreePD. Furthermore, FreePD silently removed some of their tracks from the site including the problematic one I mentioned.

I will no longer be using FreePD at all for music in the game. Instead, Wallen will not have any music (at least until further notice, but this could become a permanent decision). This will also unfortunately affect game play in the following ways:

  • I'll have to re-calculate queue timing on some of the dialog and scenes.
  • The Glitch mini-wizard, which was already implemented, is ruined because that mini-wizard depended on music as it was supposed to transform with it. I will have to re-think how the glitch mini-wizard works now.
  • Several other planned gameplay features may have to be revised as they were based on planned FreePD music.

It appears that the only safe music now is completely original music made solely for the game. I will be looking into ways this can be done, but it will significantly extend development time if I have to also make original music for it. Most likely, Saving Wallden will proceed with no music, which will sadly be a huge blow to my hopes with the game as music is a critical part of pinball.
